Turkey is globally renowned for its rich reserves of premium natural stone, including popular varieties such as Afyon White Marble, Travertine, Grey Granite, Burdur Beige and many unique coloured marbles. Each stone type carries distinct hardness, brittleness and internal texture characteristics, which creates a major challenge for multi-wire cutting. A standard general-purpose wire saw often struggles to balance cutting speed, slab yield and surface finish when switching between travertine, soft white marble and dense hard granite. This case introduces the customized Stonewin MW series multi wire saw machine delivered to a Turkish stone processor, specially tuned for local Turkish stone varieties.

This Turkey-based client runs a large quarry and slab fabrication plant, supplying natural stone products for domestic construction projects and exports to Europe and the Middle East. Their production line needs to process a wide mix of local stone blocks: porous travertine that is prone to chipping, fine-grained Afyon white marble that demands scratch-free slab surfaces, plus high-density grey granite with strong abrasiveness. Before customization, their old multi wire saw had obvious pain points: chipping edges on travertine, uneven slab thickness on white marble, and fast consumption of diamond beads when cutting hard granite.

After in-depth communication and stone sample testing, the Stonewin engineering team launched targeted customization on the MW multi wire saw to match Turkey’s local stone features.    First, the closed-loop tension control system was reprogrammed with independent cutting recipes for Turkish stone. For fragile travertine, the system applies softer, gradual tension to reduce edge breakage. For Afyon white marble, it maintains ultra-stable wire runout control to avoid surface scratches. For hard granite, the machine automatically raises cutting torque and optimizes cooling water distribution to extend diamond wire service life.

Second, the gantry structure and vibration damping components were upgraded. Turkish travertine has natural pores and uneven internal texture, which easily triggers vibration during cutting. Reinforced anti-vibration structure suppresses wire shaking effectively, greatly lowering chipping and waste rate. The high-precision servo feeding system keeps consistent cutting pace even when stone hardness varies inside one single block.

The customer also requested site-adaptation modifications for their factory layout, including custom travel stroke, reinforced block clamping fixture, and local 380V / 50Hz electrical configuration compliant with Turkey industrial standards. The machine HMI supports English language operation, with easy storage and one-click recall of all stone cutting parameters.

Since commissioning, the Turkish factory has achieved significant improvements. Travertine slab edge chipping rate dropped noticeably; Afyon white marble slabs come out with cleaner surfaces and less polishing workload. The service cycle of diamond wires when cutting local granite is extended. The stable cutting quality helps this Turkish stone mill maintain competitive advantages in European high-end slab orders.
